I've never had Taiwanese food before so I was excited to go and try this restaurant. Entering the restaurant and finding a table was a little confusing as there is a computer screen that you can add your details in and they will call you, so I did and it said that 2 other people were ahead of me in line, but when the server saw me she immediately sat me, so I'm not sure how accurate that system is. When you go in just ask for a table I guess? I tried their house special Taiwanese spicy hot pot which I didn't know at the time of ordering (as it doesn't really warn you on the menu) but this has MALA SPICE = your mouth with tingle and go numb from the peppercorns!! It was a bizarre experience if you never have tried it before and this was my first time... I wish the menu would tell you what to expect. I grew to really enjoy it but I would probably not order it again because I prefer traditional spice rather than the weird tingling. At $19 it was also more expensive than what it should be for the amount of food I got as I was still hungry afterwards but I liked the personal hot pot and the burner has exactly the right amount of fuel to heat your soup. My husband got the creamy mushroom bread bowl and it was fantastic. Service was very good despite how busy the restaurant was and when I asked for extra sauce they were happy to give it to me. Will come back to try their desserts they looked AMAZING!!!!!!!
Ouuuuuuuuuuuu I was really excited to try this place. I been here twice before and both times it was packed! Couldn't get a seat so I said forget it! But this time I went on a week night. It was busy but it wasn't that bad. Still a bit of wait but not as long. I ordered a vermicelli hot pot. It was sooo good. I enjoyed. It was a good portion size for me. The wait staff were all super nice and friendly. Even though it was so busy!!! You have the option to pay in cash for a 10% discount or with credit/debit for regular price. I would come back for sure.
Atmosphere & Service: This is our second time coming here. Be prepared to wait 30-45 mins for a table even during off peak hours. Upon entering the space, you'll be greeted by a tablet to put down your name. The tablet prompts you with your queue number and will send you a text when your table is ready. No need to wait in the crowded vestibule area! Table arrangements and layout make it hard to get in and out from your seat. I sat at the bench area for the past two visits - there's only about a 1/2 inch gap is given in between the tables. There doesn't seem to be a strict rule on bringing outside food in. We noticed a few customers around us who had brought in their bubble tea from the adjacent establishments. Service is speedy here - our order reached our table in about 15 mins. Food & Taste: There are two menus - one for the main dishes and the other for dessert and drinks. Menu graphics are colourful and informative. They also breakdown the dish ingredients for you! If you have an indecisive group of friends with different cravings, this is the place for you. They have something for everyone here. Menus are available online on their website. Our order for two people: - H05 Japanese Style Sukiyaki Hot Pot Served with Udon ($18.99) - The broth is to die for. Its light but still so flavourful without being too rich in seasoning. They give a bountiful amount of ingredients in the hot pot. Udon/Vermicelli extras are $1.99. - M01 Japanese Style Pan Fried Beef with Rice on Sizzling Hot Plate seasoned with black pepper and teriyaki sauce and Garlic ($13.99) - Similar if not identical to the famous Pepper Lunch dish. - A04 Dutch Baby Pancake with fruits and 完美彩票计划聊天室made cream sauce ($9.99) - Honestly didn't think I would have enough stomach space for dessert. This dish is perfect topper for the end of your meal. The pancake wasn't as buttery as I thought it would be, the texture was similar to a puff pastry. The sides also consisted of fruits (strawberry & kiwi) red beans, matcha pudding and green tea ice cream. Price & Recommendations: Our food spread totaled up to about $55. They give 10% off if you pay in cash. I would come back again to explore the rest of the menu - haven't even made a dent in it!
I've been to the mabu location in Markham and really enjoyed it, so when I heard about the downtown location, I was really excited. But when I went one night it was so busy that we ended up leaving. And then I came back for lunch few days later, it was still busy but it didn't take too long. I got the mini hotpot and it was really interesting! It had a variety of different stuff and also ramen noodles. I would definitely try another hotpot flavour next time. I wouldn't recommend getting drinks here as they are on the expensive side.
I heard about this place on social media and could not wait to try the restaurant. And I also went back the second time a week after given I was very impressed with their food and would like to try some other items on the menu. As this place is new, they do not take reservation, so you actually would have to enter the restaurant and use the computer screen at the front desk to add the details yourself. I did so but there are always so many people in front of you around dinner time (five the first time and four the second time). Furthermore my first time there, the server seem to give priority to someone who appears to come later. I am not impressed with the system. I tried their house special Taiwanese spicy hot pot the first time. This is not only spicy but also has a lot of peppercorns which makes your mouth and tongue numb. However, it is awesomely spiced and with the heat it is great for the winter. The second time, we had the Japanese Style Sukiyaki Hot Pot. It is quite traditional flavor and comes with udon noodle and seafood toppings. The first time, we had the appetizer Cheese Top Creamy Alfredo Mushroom Chicken in Baked Bread Bowl. The mushroom soup is great but the bread is more on the plain side. The second time we had the Mabu House Special Grass Jelly w/ Brown Sugar Milk Tea. With the dry ice in the middle, it felt like cold hot-pot but you can mix match your self to create your own version of the brown sugar milk tea. The service was not great for the first time as we were pretty much ignored. However, the waitress we had on the second time is great and she recommended some of the great items on the menu and very patient. I like the food so I will likely go back.
Aroma of the restaurant - all i can smell is tasty food in the air. The interior decor was great. I love it. The food service was good. Now they did forget my drink. yet they were always busy.. so i understand. And when i asked them again, they straighten out the issue right away. The staff were patient, friendly, and helpful. Food options were all looking good. I cant wait to come back and try out something else. It made me miss taiwan!!!
This place surprised me by how good it was and how many choices they had. The dishes were pretty quickly served and everything tasted good. The only thing was they they served our friends well after our food came out which made things a little strange, but other than that, it was a great experience! We came for lunch on a Saturday and waited about 20 min for a table for 4 - so it's definitely a little busy!
Mabu Generation specializes in Innovative Taiwanese Cuisine. They have innovative ways of presenting traditional and new dishes. Some of them are extremely colourful. There is usually a wait to get a table. At the front, there is a touch screen where you sign in to get in line for a table. It will text you when your table is ready. It tells you how many tables (of people) are ahead of you and gives you a number. We got there on a Wed 6:15pm. We were two people and we waited 25 mins. We sat at a very long table running down the middle of the rectangular restaurant. Luckily we got the end seats so we could easily move around to take pictures (the cameras always eat first!). There are separate menus for appetizers & mains and desserts & drinks, both of which are very thick (so many choices!). Since both menus are full of very appetizing and mouth-watering photos of their food, it was very hard to choose. We finally decided on: 1. Appetizer: Cheese Hash Brown Egg Pancake with Pork Floss, $9.99. 2. Main: Japanese style Pan Fried Beef with Rice on Sizzling Hot Plate, seasoned with black pepper Teriyaki sauce & garlic, $13.99. 3. Dessert: Dutch Baby Pancake with Fruits & 完美彩票计划聊天室made Cream Sauce, $9.99. The "fruits" were actually red beans and green tea pudding. The three dishes definitely didn't disappoint since they were full of flavour. The sizzling platter was nice in that you can get parts of seared beef and rice (seared with their tasty sauce), which definitely adds an additional dimension to the flavours. The interior was very interesting. There is one wall that is covered with a street scene in Taiwan. Then there are many shelves of little items from the old days. There are 3 very big-screen TVs. The staff are courteous. There is no free WiFi. If you pay with cash, you get 10% off.
Mabu Generation is a popular Taiwanese restaurant that newly opened a location in downtown Toronto. This location is super convenient to transit to, it's right across the street from Wellesley TTC station. No reservations, so you have to sign your name on a waitlist system and they will send you a text message when the table is ready. We ordered 3 of their signature hot pots to try out for their first time, and we were delighted to find that these "mini hot pots" came in super super big portions. Their House Special Taiwanese Spicy Hot pot is a great option for spicy lover, and people who love taiwanese traditional toppings such as Pork Bloog Cake, Marinated Pork intestines and Quail Egg. For a more subtle or sweet savoury option, I recommend the Japanese Style Sukiyaki which comes with udon noodle, seafood toppings, veggies and tofu etc. They have such a grand menu with so many different variety of taiwanese street food eats, from noodles to rice bowls, drinks and even desserts. One of my new favourite place for taiwanese food in downtown :) House Special Spicy Hot Pot - $18.99 Japanese Style Sukiyaki Hot Pot - $18.99 Japanese Spicy Miso Pork Bone Soup Pot - $18.99
I have A LOT of mixed feelings about this place. I'm going to start off with this: if you are a vegetarian, vegan/or eat halal, you have a better chance getting food at Mcdonalds than this place. Which is weird since their menu is huge! It's like a book, but I can't complain because the art work was stunning! Also, there were two 'book' menus; one for the main courses, and one for the desserts. Okay, I was being unfair before. If you have the dietary restrictions stated previously, vegetarians! Maybe the dessert menu is the book for you! I started off with Takoyaki (a flour battered snack filled with octopus). I don't normally enjoy takoyaki because the texture of the octopus is very hit or miss for me. However, Mabu surprised me with this one! The temperature of the takoyaki ball was perfect, it had a nice crisp on the outside & fluffy texture on the inside. The octopus was cooked for the gods! It wasn't too chewy, and it wasn't too tough. The sauce and bonito flakes on top was just exact to wrap up this appetizer. As a main, I got the [beef & cheese] on a hot plate, and I have to be completely honest... it was Ama-ZING! The sweetness of the teriyaki and corn, and the saltines/savouriness of the tender beef. With the combination with the creamy cheese! OHHH! I can eat that dish alllI day! I have no more words for this dish but, Mabu has got it going on! The service was meh. It felt like I never had an actual server, and I was always playing a game of "whose attention can I grab first". The space in the restaurant was very limited. Mabu has a neat queue-maker at the front door where you input your name on a screen. When you get a seat, expect it to feel a bit snug because the seating is typically right next to each other - especially if you are sitting at the booth.
Damn the food here is terrific! The beef noodle soup was my favourite and it was bomb!! Reminded me of eating some bomb beef noodle soup in Taiwan! Only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because of the price...little bit high for portions. All in all, i definitely recommend this place!
Expect the long wait but it'll be worth it! Everything's good and very instagram worthy! Will definitely come back!
I am so happy I found this place me and my family were driving around to see what is open and this place intrigued us so we went in and may I say it's SO delicious it has so much flavor definitely don't have this in Cali. Definitely coming back here before we leave.
